The company met over half of its annual targets, even though the economic environment was unfavourable. Through analysis into the trends and dynamics in the external environment shaping the ability of the company to fulfil the mandate were considered to substantiate the performance being reported. I am pleased to report that GMHC finished the financial year 2017/2018 with a clean audit that reflected a surplus.

GMHC management and its team embarked on the implementation of the last leg of the board five years strategic plan that ends in March 2019. The board took to a review session of the long term strategy and identified action plans to be implemented in the final year of the strategy. The action plan were pertaining in the company priorities of land ownership, affordable rentals, quality units, sustainability that is linked to growth. Excellent service being competitive in rental within the local industry and accreditation.

Critical effective functioning of GMHC was the retention of accreditation with the SHRA. The conditional accreditation status has been paved inroads for GMHC to access the Combined Capital Grant. This is quite since our biggest and signature project is now situated in gazetted Restructuring zone. The accreditation status afforded GMHC the opportunity of requesting the SHRA to assist with project packaging and that application was approved.

The focus on project full scale development will see GMHC realizing its main objective that of the developing their own rental units. SHRA capital grant funding should see GMHC soaring to greater heights and achieving this objective.

The security of tenure of residents will be enhanced by the GMHC’S integrated human settlements. The company, with its partners, will develop units that will address the need of ownership of house and rental housing of Govan Mbeki Municipality residents

As I reflect on my tenure as a chairperson of the GMHC board I marvel at what has been achieved over the past few years. We have been through very challenging times and stood against almost insurmountable odds. However, with the steadfast support of my board colleagues, we were able to achieve what some thought was not possible.

I would like to thank the fellow board members for the expertise that the brought to the issues we discussed at our meetings and for their continued dedication to ensuring that the objectives of GMHC were upheld I would also like to thank them for the vigor they brought to our meetings and the particular skills and insights each one of them brought to our engagements and deliberates. Their continuous support assisted me to fulfill my roles as the Chairperson of the board.

I am quite certain that I speak on behalf of the board when I thank the whole GMHC team for giving effect to our strategic and operational plans. They made serving on the board pleasurable. My heartfelt appreciation goes out to them for realizing over-improving performance results as reflected in our audited financial statement.

I would not conclude without expressing my heartfelt gratitude to the Mpumalanga Department of Human Settlements for their non-ending support and belief In GMHC . My gratitude is extended to our local authority, The Govan Mbeki Municipality, through its leadership of the Mayor Honourable Councillor Ms T Ngxonono without the interminable support received from our key and critical stakeholders, GMHC would not be able to achieve its objectives. Their support, years after years has enabled GMHC to align its self to government strategies fulfil its mandate of playing a critical role in addressing the socio-economic imbalance of the past that are still prevalent in our communities and provide quality and affordable human settlements.
