Govan Mbeki Housing Company (GMHC) is a non-profit social housing institution that has been established as a special purpose vehicle to deliver social housing stock. GMHC’s primary role is to cater for the needs of the low to middle income earners

A significant stride was made in February 2004 by the appointment of the General Manager, Mr Mmela Mahlangu. The CEO added that this has been the most hectic and productive two years of his life. He informed that when he took over the governance issues were prevalent and GMHC was stagnating. He added that within two years at the helm, GMHC managed to move from the state of inertia. He is adamant that the recently adopted business model will make GMHC sustainable. He also mentioned that the envisaged projects , namely ext 5 commercial development and social housing development will have an impact into the local economy and the spin offs will cascade down through the multiplier effect.

He mentioned that before being a steward at GMHC, he had four years senior management experience. He spent 6 years at Osizweni Community Centre and almost a year at Botswana Export Development and Investment Authority.He is academically inclined with a Bachelor of Science(Chemistry) as well Bachelor of Commerce (Marketing)under his belt.He is currently completing a Masters in Business Leadership

GMHC’s Board of Directors, that compromise of independent non-executive directors, continues to hold primacy in governance of GMHC and provides direction and guidance in accordance with the set strategic objectives.it oversees the implementation of the objectives, ensuring effective risk management and providing clear leadership for ethical and effective management and oversight and encouraging optimum performance. The Board meets at least once a quarter.
